Product Description
This is what happened…

I met him at the candy store.

He turned and smiled at me and I was surprised enough to smile back. This was not a children's candy store, mind you--this was the kind of place you went to buy expensive imported chocolate truffles for your boss's wife because you felt guilty for having sex with him when you were both at a conference in Milwaukee.

Hypothetically speaking, of course.

I've been hit on plenty of times, mostly by men with little finesse who thought what was between their legs made up for what they lacked between their ears.

Sometimes I went home with them anyway, just because it felt good to want and be wanted, even if it was mostly fake.

The problem with wanting is that it's like pouring water into a vase full of stones. It fills you up before you know it, leaving no room for anything else. I don't apologize for who I am or what I've done in--or out--of bed.

I have my job, my house and my life, and for a long time I haven't wanted anything else.

Until Dan. Until now.

5 out of 5 stars Flippin Hot....   October 6, 2008
a_poet_grows_in_brooklyn (Brooklyn, New York)
i spent three days with this one...ms. hart can definately weave a good story. elle is an accountant in harrisburg, who hooks up with a guy named dan, who gives her sexual fufillment beyond her wildest dreams....only problem is elle hasmajor commitment issues...and alot of other drama she has to overcome....it's usually one of these situations that things has to get worse before it gets better....but fortunately for ella and dan, it does....

i read this books in long stretches, hours at a time...that's how good this book is...and i did not feel bored one....elle appeared to me as a real women, flaws and all, who had real problems....i could sympathize with her family life...i went a few years without speaking to my mom and dad either...but it was good that she finally reconciled with her....i liked the interesting sidebar : the relationship elle had with gavin and his problems with self mutilation.....i like erotic novels when their are other things besides sex that make you want to read it...but the sex is good....ms. hart puts dan and ella in some steamy situations that made me gasp especially...one scene which required elle to be acrobatic in a closet....make time for this one...

2 out of 5 stars Disappointed   September 23, 2008
Gift Card (Indiana)
I was disappointed in this book. I had read some of Megan Hart's previous work and enjoyed it. The girl in this was (pardon my language) a BITCH. I somewhat understand by the end of the book why, but I like to read fun romances with interesting love scenes and this had a couple at the beginning but there were too many things wrong with the lead character to really enjoy the book. Definitely not a light-hearted romance this has many different levels to it.

3 out of 5 stars 3.5 stars. Abused woman slowly learns to heal and love with help from others. I liked it.   September 5, 2008
Jane Stewart (Illinois USA)
This is not a light romantic read. There is sadness due to heavy subject matter. Elle is a successful Junior VP in Corporate Accounting for an accounting firm. She meets Dan, a lawyer, in a candy store and then again three weeks later in a bar. They begin a relationship.

CAUTION SPOILERS:
Elle was repeatedly raped as a teen. At that time, her mother blamed her rather than helped her. As a result, she cannot form meaningful relationships with anyone, especially men. This story is about her coming out of her shell and slowly learning how to heal and feel for another. I was drawn into the story. I was interested in the various characters and relationships. It was a little sad, but reflective of the real world in a way that was comfortable to read about. The ending does not produce a wonderful, uplifting and fulfilling feeling, but it was an appropriate and happy ending. The writing is excellent. There were some wonderfully sensual love scenes. I felt good reading about the underlying goodness of certain people in her life: Dan, Chad and Marcy. There were also some evil people in her life: her parents and Andrew.

Sexual language: strong/erotic. Number of sex scenes: fourteen. Setting: current day Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Copyright: 2007. Genre: erotic contemporary romance.

5 out of 5 stars Taps into my own life, phenomenal read.   August 5, 2008

I did not read any reviews before buying the book. I was beyond pleased with Dirty. From the candy shop encounter I was drawn into Elle's world of anonymous sex and family troubles. Elle an accountant uses the art of counting things to distract her from emotions and attachment. She is seemingly calculated yet she's more of a calculation herself. When she meets Dan from the beginning it seems perfect until he starts to become to close and unknowingly forces Elle to confront her own past and relationship hinderances. She realizes she is not in as much control as she thinks she is. It's a very sexy, sultry, seductive novel with twists, fights, lies and finally the truth that calls for a perfect ending to a spectacular story. The irony is that personally this book actually made me realize some of my own faults and hinderances and surprisingly gave me insight into my own life. Easily one of the best erotic novels I own.

5 out of 5 stars One of my favorites.   August 4, 2008

While this book is classified as erotica, it's maybe one of the most emotionally heavy books I've read in a while, and certainly the heaviest I've ever read from the "erotica" genre.
The book is hot, while never losing it's emotional punch. It has as many poignant moments as it does sex scenes, and it's one of those books that stays with you for a long time after you read it. The main character Elle is far too relatable for any woman who has her own issues, and watching her struggle to not fall for what is obviously the perfect man for her because of her own personal experiences and issues is absolutely real and heartbreaking. The ending is perfect. I have read the book 4 times, and not once have I read the last page without crying. It is the most real love story I have ever read, and Megan Hart is truly a gifted writer.
