My husband gave this automatic peppermill to me as a stocking stuffer gift for X-Mas 2007. At first, I loved it, but over the past 5 months since I had it the black decorative knob (at the very top of the grinder) fell off (to my horror into a salad I was preparing - IN FRONT OF DINNER GUESTS!).

Last week, the grinder stopped grinding. I thought it was the batteries, but the new batteries seem to make little difference.

Since it's within the one-year advertised warranty, I'm going to have to take it back to the store where my husband purchased it. [Trudeau will also take it back (only if the store won't - you need to provide a compelling reason why) and the owner must "return the product by mail at your own expense".]

Hey, if the product goes bad within the very short one-year warranty period, Trudeau should bend over backward to accommodate customers. They have to know from the high return rate that they are surely experiencing that their product is poorly made. I will think carefully about purchasing another Trudeau product in the future.

Will see if the store will exchange now.

I've read all the past reviews, have had this product for almost 2 years. I soon found out that it didn't like "large" peppercorns, even included in a mix. I now use McCormick Black peppercorns, which are uniformly small, readily available, and highly rated. Works like a charm!
Find something else for the "fancy" blends with the big peppercorns.

I adore this product..what a great invention. No more grinding the pepper mill...just turn the pepper grinder over and you have pepper! You can adjust the top to get the desired size of pepper you wish. This is my third one I have purchased. One of them froze up and I think it was my fault as I would turn it over when cooking and the steam ruined it. My new one works great except the bottom doesn't want to stay on very good and it makes the batteries clunk if it is not on tight. I am afraid that will strip the gears. I took the bottom off the old one before I threw it away and now it works better. When my friends saw mine, they purchased this grinder as well.
