Product Description
No button, no effort and no mess! This Trudeau Graviti Mill is one of the coolest and most convenient gadgets for the kitchen! It makes a great cook's tool as well as the perfect gift for friends or family. Simply fill the mill with fresh pepper and just flip it to use! It comes filled already with fresh gourmet peppercorns and is made with a high-impact ceramic grinder that is as hard as hardened steel! It can also be used with sea salt crystals so don't limit yourself to only using peppercorns. Runs on six AAA batteries, which are not included. Under normal use, the batteries should last more than year. Comes with a 1-year warranty.

Amazon.com Review
As its name implies, the Graviti battery-operated pepper mill from Trudeau leans heavily on the laws of physics for its function and appeal. A sleek and amusing gadget that also makes great ground pepper, the piece turns on automatically when flipped upside down. This saves grinding effort, of course, but it is also useful for the stirring cook who only has one free hand to add spice, not to mention that it serves as a fun conversation starter. To ensure that the Graviti is not mere gimmickry, Trudeau equips it with a durable and efficient ceramic grinder, and a finely tunable knob for adjusting coarseness. The grinder works well for both pepper and sea salt and arrives filled with gourmet peppercorns. It washes up by hand, runs on 6 AAA batteries, and stands 7-3/4 inches high. Trudeau makes the mill in several attractive colors and backs it with a one-year warranty. --Emily Bedard

2 out of 5 stars electric pepper mill   September 1, 2010
Karen Marlowe-Fleet (Shoreline, WA United States)
We were looking to use these as Holiday gifts this year. They were not as nice as we had hoped. I am leaving them in their original packaging so we don't know if they work (we certainly hope they do). The overall product looks cheaper in reality than in the picture.

1 out of 5 stars It was great while it lasted.   September 1, 2010
Fen Sartorius (Placida, FL USA)
We bought one pepper mill and liked it so much we bought another one. They were easy to use and did a great job. I particularly liked the ability to adjust the coarseness of the grind. The only problem at first was that the bottom would not stay on, which meant they wouldn't operate; we sort of solved that with some masking tape inside to add friction BUT THEN...after about 4 months they each broke - neither one will grind pepper (or salt). Unfortunately the "return window" was expired so we're out about $60 for these mills. Very disappointed.

1 out of 5 stars Good concept - but unreliable design.   June 16, 2010

I love the concept - one handed pepper grinder, attractive matt black finish with a decent battery life but....
a. It jammed from time to time, even with fresh batteries (6xAAA)
b. The grind adjustment knob on top was hard to adjust. Best way was to do it over a sink while grinding.
c. Somewhat uneven pepper grinding when working.
d. Tricky to fill without making a mess. After adding peppercorns you insert the battery pack with the grinder in grind position and in that position the gravity activated drive motor is on - so as soon as you insert it the grinding starts. A bit messy.
e. The max fill marker on the shaft was loose.(nor a big deal - not really necessary anyway).
f. Got worse until it became unusable (6 months of light use). See note.

Overall i was dissappointed because it seemed like such a good product but failed to deliver its promise. Maybe you will have better luck than i did. Hope they do some improvements.

Note: When it finally quit i did some testing.
a. When it quit the drive shaft was not turning but the motor sounded normal, perhaps there was a clutch mechanism that was disengaging the shaft.
b. I could make it grind manually by turning the battery pack handle (the wire that folds in to allow you to remove the battery pack).
c. With the battery out i could grab the shaft with a pliers and turn it to grind. It took a lot of torque to start the grinding. More than on a manual grinder. The required torque was high for both coarse and fine grind settings (by tightening the knob on top).
d. I removed the battery pack drive motor assembly and attached a square end screwdriver attachment drive shaft connection to get a sense of how much torque it could produce. With used batteries 1.36v or fresh ones 1.56v it did produce some good torque (couldn't measure it) but apparently not enough to overcome the torque required to start the grinding.
e. Everything is sealed so no adjustments are possible.

I love this pepper mill. It works great, and grinds easily. It is easily adjustable for fine or course, and is a great new addition to my kitchen!

Bought these as house warming gifts for two people and they really have bragged about them to others that told me about them.
